This year, on October 4th, the International Herald Tribune (IHT)* celebrates 125 years as the premier international source of news, opinion and commentary for the global community. To mark this anniversary, the IHT will host a public panel discussion in Paris in which world-renowned thought leaders join IHT editors and columnists to debate issues which challenge the world’s future development and prosperity.

Andrew Ross Sorkin, Editor of The New York Times DealBook will moderate a discussion about “Restoring European Competitiveness on the World Stage”. The panel, made up of Pascal Lamy, Director-General, World Trade Organization; Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Chairman of Ferrari and Carl Bildt, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs will debate what investments in trade and people are required to ensure that European nations can build their competitiveness in a world where the new south-south trade routes threaten to eclipse established influence.
Legendary designer, Philippe Starck, will deliver the after-dinner keynote address and will talk about the importance of creativity and design in society, how he sees Europe’s role in the design world as well as his creative inspiration and plans for the future.
Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, publisher of the IHT, said: “The IHT has been stimulating the global conversation for 125 years so it is fitting that we mark our anniversary by creating opportunities to discuss how the world will respond to the challenges of the future.”
