Friday had seen the illustrious group of top athletes hike up to the famous Hausbergkante section of the Kitzbühel downhill course before the start of the day’s Super G to watch eventual winner Didier Cuche (SUI) in action.
Luc Alphand (FRA), Dakar-Winner Cyril Despres (FRA), Double Olympic Champions in Sailing Roman Hagara/Hans Peter Steinacher (AUT), former Formula-1 driver Karl Wendlinger (AUT) as well as ski stars Hermann Maier, Stefan Eberharter, Fritz Strobl and president of the Austrian Ski Federation Peter Schröcksnadel (all AUT) celebrated as Austrian racers Michael Walchhofer and Georg Streitberger took second and third place respectively.
“I dreamt of the Hausbergkante for years and years, always hoping that I would find a good line over it. Generally, I managed to. Now I ’m just happy to be able to watch from the sidelines,” commented three-time Kitzbühel champ Luc Alphand (FRA).
