Lecturer: Sheila Pratschke, Director of the Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris
Sheila Pratschke grew up in Limerick and studied at University College Dublin. After teaching in Ireland and Africa, she embraced a new career in arts management. From 1994 to 2001, she was Director of the Irish Film Institute in Dublin. From 2001 to 2007, she directed the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig - the famous retreat for artists in rural Ireland. Sheila was appointed Director of the Irish College Paris in 2007. In May 2009, the French Ambassador in Dublin awarded Sheila the Ordre National du Mérite in recognition of her contribution to Franco-Irish cultural relations.
The old Irish College in Paris underwent extensive renovation in 2002 and was transformed into a cultural centre which has been a flagship institution for Irish arts and artists ever since. The ‘re-imagining’ has been a lively and challenging process.
