The Com.It.Es. Christmas Concert has a storied history in the Principality of Monaco, dating back to its first edition in 2003. Established by the Committee of Italians Residing Abroad (Com.It.Es.) under the leadership of prominent Italian entertainer Ezio Greggio, the event was conceived as a way to strengthen the bonds within the Italian community during the festive season. Over the years, it has blossomed into a much-anticipated annual tradition, bringing together Italians, Monégasques, and international attendees to celebrate the spirit of Christmas through music and cultural exchange.

What began as an intimate gathering has grown into a large-scale celebration hosted at the prestigious Espace Léo Ferré, known for its excellent acoustics and capacity to host hundreds of spectators. The event consistently attracts high-profile guests, including dignitaries and cultural icons, such as the Ambassador of Italy to Monaco and other notable figures. With free admission, the concert promotes accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone can share in the joy of the season. Each year, the concert highlights Italy’s rich musical heritage by featuring performances from renowned orchestras like the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra and talented choirs. It also serves as a platform to honor young Italian athletes in Monaco for their accomplishments, reinforcing the importance of community, heritage, and the nurturing of future generations. The Com.It.Es. Christmas Concert continues to thrive as a symbol of unity, tradition, and the enduring power of music to bring people together during the most wonderful time of the year.

Honoring Young Talent and Musical Excellence

As part of the evening’s tradition, awards were presented to outstanding young Italian athletes residing in Monaco, celebrating their achievements in their respective sports. This acknowledgment of youth excellence underscores the community’s commitment to fostering talent and unity. The musical portion of the evening featured a touching performance by the ISM Choir — 21 girls and one boy — directed by Colette Nielsen. Their renditions of classic Christmas carols, such as “Silent Night” and “O Holy Night,” added a festive warmth to the night.

The spotlight then turned to the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, composed of 34 talented musicians and led by Maestro Giancarlo Di Lorenzo. The orchestra, celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, delivered a powerful and nostalgic performance. The Sanremo Symphony Orchestra has a long and storied history, known for its association with the Sanremo Music Festival and its dedication to preserving and promoting Italian musical heritage.

A Musical Journey Through Modugno's Legacy

The highlight of the evening was a heartfelt tribute to Domenico Modugno, with 13 of his greatest hits performed, including:

“Tu Si Na Cosa Grande” – A romantic ballad filled with emotion.
“Vecchio Frac” – A poignant song about a gentleman’s final walk.
“Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)” – Modugno’s most iconic song, which won the Sanremo Music Festival in 1958 and became a global anthem.

The orchestra’s lush arrangements, combined with the passionate vocals of Peppe Voltarelli, created a spellbinding atmosphere. Voltarelli, a seasoned performer from Club Tenco, brought Modugno’s songs to life, capturing the spirit of 1950s Italy and evoking a deep sense of nostalgia. Each piece painted a vivid picture of Modugno’s artistic journey, from his early successes to his enduring legacy.

Community and Gratitude

The success of this year’s concert is a testament to the dedication of Com.It.Es. of Monaco and its commitment to cultural celebration. Entry to the concert remained free of charge, emphasizing inclusivity and community spirit. Special thanks were extended to the Italian Embassy in Monaco for its patronage, as well as to the Espace Léo Ferré and Monaco's Urban Development Department for their cooperation.
