Wine and yoga, it’s surprising !

You don’t have to have a crazy lifestyle or big budget to afford virtual fitness training. Gyms might be starting to open back up across the world, but that doesn’t mean people are ready to dive back into them yet. If exercising in an enclosed space where people sweat, breathe hard, and share equipment with strangers, I purpose to you this week, to discover with Kirstie Nelson, a yoga teacher located in Canada, a very unique way to practice yoga, with people coming from all over the world and online, the Vino Yoga !

Mixing beer, wine or cocktails with activities such as yoga, running, hiking, Zumba or spin class makes it more Instagram-friendly, of course, but experts say it also helps make the experience less intimidating.. Sure, people have been pairing beer with bowling, skiing with schnapps for generations, elsewhere, there are brunch runs, and even wine marathons (in France), but the latest iteration of happy hour, wine yoga feels like the bar has been raised, quite literally, on working out. In fact, fitness with an alcohol chaser is definitely flourishing, attracting the fit, the social, and the curious !

Kirstie Nelson, yoga instructor.

- Can you introduced yourself and your activity ?
I'm Kirsty and I am 500 hours certified yoga instructor. I received my training back in 2013 through Modo hot yoga and I teach a variety of styles. Although I mainly focus on traditional style of yoga called Hatha Yoga as well as a long slow stretching take with yoga called the in spent. The last seven years is a skater with Disney on Ice. And I had the absolute pleasure of teaching yoga classes to all my colleagues as we performed and toured all over the world.

- How and why did you start Yoga ?
My yoga Journey started when I was growing up as a competitive figure skater. I use yoga as a way to complement my office training and to keep my mind and my body in Peak form and condition for competing. But to be honest I hated it. I was not a fan of yoga didn't enjoy Yoga as a way to complement my office training and to keep my mind and my body in Peak form and condition for competing. But to be honest I hated it. I was not a fan of yoga didn't enjoy it. It was just something I had to do, but it wasn't until I graduated University and entered the corporate. Or that I rediscovered yoga and Developed a better world loving relationship. So we've had this wonderful relationship together for about the past ten years. I've thoroughly enjoyed yoga has become much more to me than just a physical practice.

-What could you advice for the people that are intimidated to start Yoga ?
I know there are a lot of people out there who are intimidated by yoga and hesitant to try it out for the first time whether it be because they don't understand what all those fancy crazy names are for the closes. Don't worry. I don't know what a lot of them are either or people who think that you need to have a certain level of flexibility in order to do yoga. I just want to see that that is not true at all in my classes. I welcome people of all shapes and sizes all levels and abilities. Everybody is capable of doing yoga. There's absolutely no requirement to have any level of flexibility when starting Yoga Yoga is it's a journey it's not a destination and you know, you're not going to come in one day not able to touch your toes and then They all of a sudden be able to touch your toes. No, that's not the case. But it you know, it takes time but without ever, you know, regular practice, you will be amazed at the progress that you can make and it's all about just being patient your body and trying to enjoy the journey. If you need a little help with finding that enjoyment video. Yoga classes are a great place to start because Cuz you know that takes a lot of pressure off of feeling like you have to be perfect and make those perfect looking shapes. Just forget about that. You can come and enjoy a drink or two. It'll take the edge off and just make it more of a social activity in while still moving the body, but when you're not focusing just on those poses.

- How is it possible to do online class while so many people think it’s necessary to go to a specific place for practice ?

During this crazy and I'm settling time in the world where most of us are stuck in quarantine can't really leave our house. It is so important to take the time for a little more self care and yoga is a wonderful way to keep the mind and the body healthy during this time. The best thing is is Yoga can be done at home with no equipment. All you need is a little floor space practice on a mat or if you don't even have a man in his blanket or a towel is perfectly fine. So you can really be done anywhere and as a teacher, I'm lucky in that, you know, although I can't be teaching people face-to-face right now with the power of modern day technology. I've been able to jump online and teach live virtual yoga classes. And this has been wonderful. It's such a great way to connect with people and again be able to practice yoga with people all over the world and you know interact when we can't see each other face to face and you know the Vino yoga especially is a wonderful way to get the body moving while also, you know being able to virtually socialize Toledo little online happy hour. So it's been great. You know, we can work out the entire body while having some fun at the same time. And yeah just giving ourselves a little extra TLC during this time, which is much needed and it's been wonderful.

- What are for you, the effects of yoga on the daily basis ?

Yoga provides me with so many wonderful benefits not only physically but also mentally off the mat in my everyday life. It teaches me to be more Mindful and to live life in the present moment and that it's important to take a step back from the craziness that we call life and just to look around and be thankful for all those little things that we take for granted every day. Yoga constantly reminds me of Just how powerful the breath can be in dealing with stressful situations. So if I'm ever feeling overwhelmed or stressed out or frustrated, I just come to my mat and practice or if not just take a step back from the situation and take a couple deep breaths and that really just comes in mind relaxes the body and helps me feel more grounded and ready to take on the rest of my day

- How did you came up with the concept of Vino Yoga ?

I came up with the concept of vino yoga while stuck in quarantine. I just wanted to create something fun and unique and I love my wine very very passionate about it. And obviously I enjoy yoga and I figured why not super social non-serious class. We take a glass of wine or any other alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage and just drink and enjoy it as we move through a series of different yoga poses. So it's a fun challenge to you know, try and balance the cup as you're moving and not You spill a drop of wine. That is a big No-No, but yes, it hasn't little element of Challenge and it also is a great way to just to just take the pressure off of people, you know beginner Yogi's Let's have a good time. Enjoy a drink or two heck you can sit on the mat and just enjoy happy hours of It's just a lot of fun and it's been wonderful way to socialize virtually during this time while also get the body moving, stretch and have a good time.
